A selection of people who have and do work at the NBI

Carl "dubmarine" North,(Dred Stripe)His Imperial Majesty’s 1st Battalion DubMarine corps first formed to provide heavy drum artillery support to the mighty DIBDUB Soundsystem in their reggae assault on the ears of Exeter City. The corps, headed by General Nuisance and Major Problem, have seen action in numerous theatres of aural war including regular assaults on the Cavern Club and St. Georges Hall. They have also been attached to 1st Div. Soul Jazz Soundsystem in their support of the Junior Murvin campaign. Two long-winded tours of duty have included Escott Park Beautiful Days Festival, supporting the likes of the Dreadzone Soundsystem and Hybrid; and the New Years Party at the Exeter Phoenix. Battalion Headquarters and officers mess, the NBI, is where the DubMarines can normally be found and where they were enlisted by MAD Nuala - the Musical Anzac Division. Dred Stripe is a regular Re-Fu-Ja? dj every alternate Sunday
Edgar Stephen Coate (MBII) has been in the pub trade for over a decade, working for Punch Taverns, Ushers, Innspired Pubs Plc and now as a leaseholder through Pub Folio .

Originally from Watford, Greater London, he has lived most of his life in Devon having moved back from Hampshire in 1986 to take up a position with Dobbie Typesetting, now based in Tavistock.

After eleven years there; what started as part-time bar work at his local "just to help out" led to quite possibly the easiest career change ever when the landlady, Karen Plumtree, and he were walking to the Arts Centre cinema and she said "Do you want a job then?","Yes please" came the reply.

As luck would have it years later the Nowhere Inn that Karen had turned into a much loved part of the community, was Edgar's first as joint licensee. Having left there at the end of summer 2002 attendance at Matt and Lisa's wedding in the highlands of Scotland was suddenly possible and then back to work decorating the NBI ready to open at the end of September 2002.

Crispin Tregoning had been in the pub trade for five years. He followed Eddie to the NBI for a life of excitement and debauchery...

He's still waiting, but enjoyed his time in Exeter nonetheless. Graduating in BSc Human Biosciences at UPIST (University of Plymouth Institute for Science and Technology) he has yet to find a use for his degree. Plans for a paper plane, set to be unprecedented in the realms of, err, paper plane design fashioned from the aforementioned piece of paper are well under way.

Crispin now lives and works in Kent having escaped the drudgery of pub work for a life up trees

Current favourites: Wychwood Hobgoblin
Position of the month: Up the trees of Kent
